Aesthetic Facial Enhancement Popularity Rises

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of facelifts performed in 2014 (128,266) were down 4% from 2013 (133,320), which were up 6% from 2012 (126,320).

However, nonsurgical aesthetic facial enhancement procedures continue to be substantially more popular and prevalent.

Here are some the statistics…

In 2014:

  • botulinum toxin type A injection (6,673,608 procedures up 5.5%),
  • hyaluronic acid injection (1,802,247 up 7.5%),
  • microdermabrasion (881,905 down 9%),
  • chemical peel (1,250,059 up 7%).

In 2013:

  • botulinum toxin type A injection (6,321,160 procedures up 3%),
  • hyaluronic acid injection (1,675,601 up 16%),
  • microdermabrasion (970,343 down >1%),
  • chemical peel (1,163,333 up 3%).

In 2012:

  • botulinum toxin type A injection (6,134,621 procedures),
  • hyaluronic acid injection (1,423,705),
  • microdermabrasion (973,556),
  • chemical peel (1,133,821).

Botulinum toxin type A injections include Botox Cosmetic and Xeomin.

Hyaluronic acid solutions include Juvederm, Perlane, Belotero, and Restylane.
