Aging shapes the face in common, predictable ways. Skin loses elasticity and facial muscles atrophy, resulting in an undesirable loss of volume. These effects can be especially evident in the mid-face, which includes the undereye and cheek area.
Hyaluronic acid is a volumizing, hydrating injectable agent that is often used to fill out the mid-facial region, but the duration of its effects in this area have not previously been rigorously studied… until now
Data from a new study, presented last month to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), shows that hyaluronic acid treatment in the mid-face can lead to long-lasting results, with efficacy as long as two years in some regions of the face. Duration of effect was related to the volume of hyaluronic acid used and the facial region being treated.
Hyaluronic acid solutions include Juvederm, Perlane, Belotero, and Restylane.
